6 F) `, C0 M7 ~- J C G- v" Q# @1996年，Harrell（贝司手）、Arnold(主唱)和Roberts(吉他手)这三个好朋友组建了这支乐队。因为当时成员有3个，所以3（trio）就成为了他们的名字的组成部分之一，同时他们在亚拉巴马州的一个建筑上看到了“Doors Down”这个让他们喜爱的短语，所以乐队就被最后命名为3 Doors Down。
3 l+ \- z) C1 o7 e9 k9 `* v1997年，3 Doors Down一边演出一边推销他们一开始录制的一些小样。这期间他们的卖座单曲Kryptonite，导致了比洛克西的本地广播站WCPR空前的电话点播。这使他们在故乡大受欢迎并且逐渐能够吸引大批的观众来看他们在当地的现场演唱会。这一切帮助他们把他们的名字传到了密西西比州之外，传出了偏远的南方一直传到一些国际性的著名俱乐部，像纽约的CBGB。3 Doors Down在CBGB的表演使他们引起了Republic唱片公司的注意，这是一个Universal唱片公司的附属公司。随后他们与Republic/Universal签了约，迈出了他们正式发行唱片的地一步。

2003年，乐队又推出了新专集《Away From The Sun》。这张专集无疑比《The Better Life》更进了一步，专集发行不到一周便登上了Billboard排名前200中的第8名！！并且在一个月之内就达到了黄金销量，而后又突破了白金销量。当然这都得归功于其中非常成功的单曲When I'm Gone。还有专集里著名单曲“Here Without You”也连续创入美国Billboard排行榜前40名13周之久。同年，乐队又推出了Away From The Sun巡演的现场的EP《Another 700 Miles》，其中包括六首前两张专集中的作品和一首新歌“It’s Not Me”。现在也以达到黄金销量，看来在销售出去这么多专集以后乐队魅力依然不减。
