Skrillex出生于美国西北洛杉矶的高地公园区，但在两岁的时候就搬家到了旧金山的森林山并且在那里上小学。在九到十岁时，他加入了一所位于莫哈韦沙漠的寄宿学校，但到最后还是搬回北加州。十二岁时，他又搬回他的出生地西北洛杉矶，并进入一所主修艺术的私校就读，然而十四岁时因为被欺负而转为在家自学。十六岁时，他发现他其实是一个被收养的小孩，这使他的人生有了重大的改变，还使他向学校申请退学。
